Wolfware Assembler (WASM) by Eric Tauck is an assembler for the 8086 and related microprocessors. It takes a standard ASCII text file of instruction mnemonics for input and produces an executable COM file and an optional list file for output. The previous version of WASM was released under a license that was essentially "copyrighted freeware, with source code." Eric has now re-released WASM under the MIT license, which makes this officially open source! Thanks to Eric! (And thanks to Robert Riebisch for reaching out to Eric.) Eric has posted his software under the new MIT license on his website at Shoeless Computers.
Eric's software includes more than just WASM. You can also find TODDY v6.15 (A DOS command line editor), CLONE v2.10 (A floppy disk duplicator), WARP v2.31 (A fast ANSI.SYS replacement) and several other tools for DOS or Windows. The new license is mentioned in the README.TXT and LICENSE.TXT files. We've also mirrored the MIT-licensed WASM at ibiblio.

Jack has again updated UHDD. From Jack's announcement: "To include DMA/Caching Overlap, which along with Read-Ahead gives UHDD up to 20% faster speed than UIDE on his V6.22 MS-DOS and similar good speed increases for FreeDOS. UHDD now matches the closed source XHDD in speed." Thanks Jack! We've mirrored this newer version at ibiblio as drivers-2024-07-14.zip
-There was an error when mirroring this to ibiblio. Please download the drivers-2024-07-14a.zip file instead. This is the fixed version.

XMGR, UIDE, UHDD/UDVD2 and RDISK are open source DOS device drivers for a PC system with an 80386+ CPU and using FreeDOS. XMGR is an "XMS manager" for up to 4-GB. UIDE is a disk caching driver. UHDD is an improved disk-only caching driver. UDVD2 is a CD/DVD driver for up to 4 SATA, IDE, or old PIO-mode drives. RDISK is a RAM-disk driver. Jack Ellis has updated the drivers. From the readme: "UIDE now updated with all UHDD updates and 'bug fixes' from 15-Feb-2024 onward. It now offers 10-MB and all 20-MB+ cache sizes for old small-memory systems. UHDD fixed to run 9 controllers and "LBA48" disks (> 128-GB) correctly. It now does Read-Ahead with all 10-MB+ caches. See the driver .ASM source files for full notes on these changes." We've mirrored this release at ibiblio as drivers-2024-07-07.zip
